about

A song about trying to come to terms with the end of a relationship. As the tune and the chords were very simple, I wanted to pair them with simple language in the style of Nick Lowe, who's a bit of a songwriting hero.

Jon Clayton (who runs One Cat Studio and plays drums in Hurtling) wrote and performed the cello part, while Adam Beattie (Band of Burns) played double bass.

lyrics

I miss the peace of you, the peace that lives in me
When it's dark and I can't sleep
I seem to think of you when the night hangs deep and still
And I guess I always will

It's a long way back to where I used to be
I'm a long way from the man I thought was me
You can tell me lies you know I won't believe
But that won't help my restless heart to sleep

I gave my heart to you, the sun shone in the sky
And the clouds all passed me by
But now I face myself and don't like what I see
And the clouds hang over me

It's a long way back to where I used to be
I'm a long way from the man I thought was me
You can tell me lies you know I won't believe
But that won't help my restless heart to sleep
