about

This is a song about how London is always changing. It was inspired by the part of the city I worked in for a couple of years - Chancery Lane - an area full of narrow lanes and backstreets that give a sense of the London from many years ago, yet exist against a backdrop of skyscrapers and modern developments. The song is also about feeling overwhelmed by the crowds in the city, and wanting to escape.

Melanie

lyrics

What do you do when you can't find the words,
You're surrounded by voices that fight to be heard?
Will you meet me today?
We'll just figure it out in the rain

There were gardens here once all along Holborn Hill
There were passages then that were empty and still
But I'm stuck in this crowd and there's nowhere
Where we can escape

Run away, put someone in my place
Let's go away, and we'll see them someday
There will be nothing left in the end
Because they'll pull it all down once again
And none of our things will remain

No one looks up as they battle ahead
Lonely blank faces in puddles instead
Lined up by the wall, all the people who
Long for a change

Run away, put someone in my place
Let's go away, and we'll see them someday
There will be nothing left in the end
Because they'll pull it all down once again
And none of our things will remain
None of our things will remain
